ASKED ME (0:45)
here i am nothing but
longing nothing
but a natural diver into the emptiness
of your welcome you are not in
this space staved in by the wind's
gathering force behind me into a swell
time i never had never gathered
the pedals that could have driven
me forth down
from fifth back into the emptiness
where everyone gathers but you
nobody gathers your smile
nobody gathers your eyes
nobody drifts into the unlit spot
where palms grow green and roofs
suddenly appear as though it were ordained
that a harsh world should become
hospitable in the twinkling of a heart
but your heart isn't here
originally
appeared in Stained Sheets
included here thanks to Bruce Weber & Maggie
