Hung out with Boni and Alice last night, who sheephishly showed me the expensive hair products they’d just purchased at the hair salon and then asked permission to touch my hair to see how greasy it was. They agreed that my hair looks and feels great and that, if I hadn’t told them I’d given up shampoo, they would never know it.

Visited Rod’s family for Father’s Day. I washed with shikakai yesterday morning, hoping that my hair would hold the style and that I wouldn’t have to wash it today. I didn’t. It looked wonderful, full of body and shiny. Our three-year-old niece was playing with my hair all day and didn’t notice anything amiss. You know children are brutal with the truth, and she would’ve told me if my hair felt or smelled weird.

I’m noticing that, almost two months into this no’poo experiment, I can go four days before I have to wash my hair with water, even. I’m going to start cleansing my scalp with shikakai just once a month. It’s really just a conditioning treatment, at this point.

My hair can get totally clean just by water only and a scalp massage twice a week. Sometimes I need to put Powder Puff in it to soak up oily or sweaty roots, if it’s hot outside.

The upside of all this is that my hair is so healthy, bouncy, and manageable. No split ends at all, and I’ve discovered the natural wave.

Another trick I’ve picked up is: Don’t rub the towel on your hair when you towel dry it. Just wrap the towel around your head and leave it on for about ten minutes. This will reduce frizzies or flyaways.
