BIKER BOOTS AND A MINI SKIRT

(A Rock & Roll Song)

First we have the intro
and the intro is the sound
of stacked leather heels striking pavement
a hard, insistent beat
and it goes on just like that
for a few bars until we get to the first verse

And the first verse is her breasts
bouncing loose beneath her t-shirt
the friction of nipples against cloth
the sway of her hips and the way the zipper
runs up the back of her skirt
which leads us into the chorus

And the chorus is the smell of sweat and perfume
and cigarette smoke and hairspray
a smear of lipstick on a bathroom mirror
saliva and teeth and kisses that taste like vodka

Then there’s another verse
This verse is soft and wet
and licks delicately at your ear
caressing and penetrating
as it unbuttons your jeans
and tugs at your fly

Then the chorus comes back
only this time there’s an undercurrent of doubt
and maybe just the tiniest touch of fear
but before it really has time to register
there’s a guitar solo

And that’s the snarl and hiss
of stray cats making love in an alley
beneath your bedroom window
at three o’clock in the morning
counterpointed by the sound of old men crying
and the unheeded warnings
of every mother that ever lived

Then we come to a bridge
we cross it running
in spurts of fluid motion
to reach the last verse

The last verse is twilight and eclipse
is the toppled monuments of abdicated kings
is rain falling on deserted cities
is the last train out of town
and then the chorus comes back one last time, mockingly
and then we take the whole thing out

and the fadeout
is me on my knees
saying come back
come back
baby
please
come back
